Concern w/ our Maggie

Post by Bill Schneide » Wed, 11 Feb 1998 04:00:00

Hi y'all, we have a group of 8  wonderful ferrets, our oldest Maggie (15
months old) has been acting strange this week. She seems to be eating ok,
and poopls are ok. But has absolutely no energy. She gets up eats and goes
back to sleep. Even when we let them all out for playtime, she comes out for
about 5 minutes and then back to bed. Any ideas and thoughts as to whether
we should be concerned?

Thanks.

Yes.  One of my ferrets (Rikki) recently was displaying the same symptoms.  I
took him to the vet and the vet suspects he has an insulinoma.  Take her in to
the vet, as soon as is feasible.

>hi bill!

well, in my humble opinion...i would guess the ferret is bored.  Now,
realize this just from your post...i really don't know the ferrets medical
health.  my yoda gets bored with everything!  so i have a constant challenge
to amuse him!

i have found with yoda...he will tell me what he wants.  what he really
wants is to go play in the front room.  why?  because he can't get there on
his own.  nothing special about this room, mind you.  but he is stubborn!

you mentioned 15 months is your oldest (boy, ferret math sure hit you fast
and furious, didn't it?)...not to say you're inexperienced, but 15 months is
not much past a kid.  she would be an *** now, and behavior and desires
certainly do change.

and of course, always look to health issues first.

good luck!

Hi!

Any other symptoms?  Excessive sneezing?  Elevated temp?  Drinking more
water than usual?  Dehydrated?  Check for lumps/bumps.  No vomiting?
Recent
shedding?
