Taz n Tasha update (and thank you!)

Post by Succuby » Tue, 29 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Yes, it's an update in the ongoing saga...it seems that after 4 months of
living with and loving our lil rescues, they are going to move on.  The sister
of a good friend of mine wants to make Taz n Tasha part of her home.  She's a
vet student, part-time vet tech who just got her own place.  I was at my
friends house this weekend.  She has one fert, in a huge cage...tho he prefers
to be solitary, I'm always teasing her about how much room she has and how 3
ferts would be soooo much fun, wouldn't she like to have a couple more?  Her
sister overheard and was all interested, "Oh, you have ferrets?"  One thing
lead to another, she called last night and she will be happy to have them.
On the one hand, I am sooo happy they are going to a home where they will be
loved and VERY well taken care of.  Not that they were'nt here, but as you
might remember, space is something they didn't have alot of and because of the
dog, they didn't have much freedom.
But I will miss them so much!  Taz has gotten sooooo BIG and healthy since
we've had him!  Tasha is still the little petite princess, but definitely the
boss!  They have given us so much happiness and my daughter is absolutely
hysterical that we will be giving them away.  But she knows we were only
"foster parents" and we found them a home the right way, so she understands
that it's the right thing to do.  Much comfort is taken in the fact that we
kept them out of the woods and an almost certain death.
So I guess I just want to say thank you to everyone here who helped us take
care of our feezels, helped us appreciated them and understand them and give
them the good life they had while they lived with us before moving on!
And maybe get a little last bit of encouragement that we are doing the right
thing to help ease the emptiness that will be there when they don't live in
that corner of my daughters room anymore.
Thanks again!

I'm glad you finally found a home for them, and I'm even more glad that you
kept them all this time until you could. I'm sure they'll be very happy in
their new home.  You'll just have to go over and visit now and again.  And
just think, the sister of your friend has a guaranteed ferret sitter when
going on vacation now  :)

Taz n Tasha update (and thank you!)

For everyone who ever gave away a furbaby or adopted one...is there anything I
can do to make the transition easier on the feezils?  They are going in their
cage and taking their unwashed (lucky new owner ;) towels and toys with them.
We are giving an extra bag of food (IAMS Kitten).
We are taking them to a friends house, who is acting as a liason so we can
mingle in with the new owner before they go to their new home.(altho, that is
more for the daughters sake then the ferrets)
Other than that, anything else?  Taz n Tasha both seemed pretty unfazed by new
living quarters when they came here.  Are ferrets generally adaptable to new
situations, provided there is no trauma involved?
S (still tryin to do the right thing or just keeping my foot in the door? ;)

I've never noticed any trauma when I've adopted a new kid.  It seems to be
harder on the ones already in the house to have a stranger coming into
"their territory" than it does on the invader.   I also had a friend of mine
care for Stinky and Nunzio when I was in the middle of moving (a month at
the in-laws until the former owner moved out of my house).  They did fine.
They didn't show any signs of stress and had fun playing with her dogs.
They were fine when I moved them into my house (a few weeks after I moved in
because I got seriously ill for a couple of weeks).  The day they moved back
home with me was the same day that Ginger came to live here.  They adjusted
to her well too.  I think they thought the new ferret came with the new
house!  I think they are remarkably adaptable.  Way more so than the dogs or
cats I've had.

I put all newcomers on Carafate, twice daily for the first week. Sometimes it
is hard to tell when a ferret gets stressed, so this is just a precaution.

For the most part, as long as they have each other they should do okay.
They will definitely miss you guys and there may be a day or two of runny
poops,
but as long as they are together they should come out fine :)

Best wishes to all involved :)

This might not help the ferrets, but it will help the new family. When
we adopted two ferrets from Kista we got the sweetest letter from the
former owner detailing their history and likes and dislikes. And don't
forget any medical records.

With all the best intentions, all the precautions, all the common sense and
everything else....Taz n Tasha are victims of ferret ignorance.
They will be staying in that corner of my daughters room a little longer, which
is not neccassarily a bad thing.
Apparently, the friend of my sister lives w/ her boyfriend and they rent an
apartment from his mother.  She owns the building, doesn't live there, they pay
rent etc etc.
The mother forbids them to have the ferrets.  Why, you ask?  Because they are
mean, they are destructive and they smell.
WHAT?!?
I got the call last night.  The girl is VERY upset, as she knows better and I
guess the mother said she would rather they got a dog or a cat if they HAD to
have a pet.  She's obviously clueless...
SO anyway...Taz n Tasha get to stay with us a bit longer...or a lot longer
probably.
Which is fine by us, but it would have been nicer for them to have a bit more
than they have here.  We will continue to do our best by them, but thats the
third ALMOST home that fell thru.  Oh well, some things are just meant to be :)
Thanks again for your help and encouragement  everyone!

I'm sorry the home fell through, but I am secretly glad they are staying
with you.
