Spider I.D.

Recently I ran accross a spider at work in Irvine, CA  USA.  The spider
I saw was black, about the size of a nickel and roundish in its shape.
On its back were four small white spots.  Holding the spider with the
head in a downward possition, the spots on its back were in the form of
what looked like a cartoonish chinnese face, (no offense meant),with two
small  dots representing the eyes and two larger verticle rectangles
just below them that looked like buck teeth.  I've looked through
several books, web sites  and documents but I cannot identify it.  Does
anyone have a clue as to what I have?  Please let me know.  Thanks in
advance.
