Hi, I live in south central Pennsylvania and found this spider I am not able
to ID. It was in a web on side of building. Its body is long and thin and
the top is colored shiny silver. The bottom is black with yellow pattern. It
has long yellow and black banded legs. Total size with legs about size of a
half dollar coin. Please help me with ID. Thanks.
Blessings, Al

Al,

Sounds like an orb-weaving spider from the Argiope family. Possibly A.
aurantia. But there are a couple more species of Argiope that it could be, so I
can't tell you for sure. If you could take a pic of it I might be able to id
it.

Go here: http://www.sdnhm.org/fieldguide/inverts/argi-aur.html to see a picture
of A. aurantia, then tell me if that's what it was.

Yours,

John Racette
