Preserving Tarantula Skin

Post by mylittleste.. » Thu, 04 Oct 2007 23:43:58

Hi, my tarantula recently molted and a professor I work for wants to
keep it, is there anything special I have to do to preserve the skin?
It is in a display case, but I just dont know if it will naturally
deteriorate or requires no extra protection? If anyone has an answer
that would be great!
Thanks

it may fade a little but they stay for the most part just asd they dry
and are beautiful ,I have many that are quite old /THEY are brittle/
and they may not want ot handle it or very caefully ( as to put under
microscope )I have many in a large tin so they don't get bounced
around ,hope that helps -Cal

We take fresh molts and pose them the way you want and I have taken cotton
balls, stuff them into the abdomen, stretching out the molt to it's natural
look. Lay the carapace on top and let it dry for a couple of days. That's
all you have to do.

I want ask if you can spray it with some kind of lacquer to seal it.
Maybe then it would't be so fragile.
