Growing Millet

Post by Rich 9 » Wed, 25 Oct 1995 04:00:00

I have Quakers, and they like millet like many other birds. I have planted
some millet seeds, they are growing and look like a grass plant about six
inches tall right now. Has anyone grown millet, or knows anything about
the plant?

Yes, we grow millet sprays in abundance here in the Sandia Mts. of
NM. We also grew them in S CA. Millet is quite easy to grow. All of our
birds love them and find them a real treat!!

I would assume millet grass likes strong sunlight and warm weather.
You might be able to grow it to maturity outdoors, but it would
be quite a trick indoors in the winter without extra light.
Can't hurt to try  though (and the birds might like millet sprouts
even if it fails).
