Macaw beak separation

Post by Antony Hurs » Mon, 02 Oct 1995 04:00:00

Our Macaw has developed a flaking/splitting separation of her
beak at the leading edge of her lower beak. It is a separation of
the layers and not a crack.

Is this something simple or is it "Vet Time?"

In most cases this is just natural.. Kind of like fingernails.. when
they get beaten up.. they start to flake..

However.. SOMETIMES this is due to vitamin defficiencies.. My Gray's
beak was getting slightly brittle, so the her avian vet suggested a
vitamin suppliment containing calcium.
