Help: 'Tiel toys

Post by Laurie L. Roberts » Sun, 02 Jul 1995 04:00:00

All my 'tiels have had one favorite toy, those interlocking plastic rings
available at any pet store.  My 'tiels have used them for *** or
mating soliciation, play (stack them on one's head and see if you get on the
swing), and even a comfortable bedtime companion.  My 'tiels have also always
had a small bell attached to a readily accessible toy (best if rings, but
sometimes the people get tired of replacing the bell in this favorite locale).
The birds use the bell to indicate displeasure, e***ment, and other birdy
emotions.

Hello, fellow 'tiel owners! I was wondering...my 'tiels seem to play
with their toys in their cage only before hitting the sack. Otherwise,
they like to play on me or other family members and get into what we
don't want them to, such as glasses, shiny things on the telephone,
etc. Is it that their just bored with their toys during the day and
prefer to play on you (i.e. you have their favorite toys)? I know it's
not good to remove so-called "security toys" that they need to feel
comfortable b4 sleeping. Can you please offer an answer?

Thanks in advance,

lee

Hi Lee:
My 'tiel also gets pretty active with his toys just before bedtime.
He will still play with toys during the day, too.  He is a mirror-***ed
bird and loves to play with a rotating mirror, but I wouldn't suggest that
for your birds.  He also likes anything with small beads on it and bells that
are shiny and noisey.  One of his favorite toys is one of those metal bead
chains they sell as pulls for lightbulbs.  You can buy them at a hardware
store for about a dollar.
It sounds like your 'tiels have no trouble entertaining themselves
anyway if they have plenty of humans around to do their bidding!

My***atiels are very different.  I have a male 2yr old lutino Freebie
who loves a little green rawhide on a chain, a figure 8 swing, and peacock
feather.  He'll try other things too, but those are his favourites.

My female 12ish yr old pied Lockheed likes a bell and a little green
rawhide on a chain.  Everything else is 100% radioactive.

The little rawhides were sold as budgie toys, and I haven't been able to
find any since.  :(
