Hahn's Macaws

Post by Steve DeGro » Wed, 07 Sep 1994 09:59:26

I was playing with a Hahn's Macaw in a pet store the other day.
He was very cute and cuddly and not nearly as loud as I'd expect
a macaw to be. I'm thinking of getting one of these little guys
some day. Anyone out there know what they're like when they get
older?

Steve,

Mr Chips, our Hahn's Macaw, has been with us since he was 4 months old and he is  now 3 years, 3 months old. From our experiences and discussions with other owners and breeders of the Hahn's and Noble mini-macaws, we'd have to say that they are the bird to get if you want a macaw in a very small package. And along with the small size comes a small volume level. Mr Chips can vocalize at fairly high levels, but for the most part he is quiet and content to chatter and talk at a mumble level. He is very affect

ionate and even a little possessive - he pinches me when one of the other flock members gets too close. He is quite intelligent and has a very large associative vocabulary and we've observed this in a large number of mini's we've had the opportunity to meet. If you haven't already, you might want to read the FAQ on mini-macaws to get some other info.

All the best,
Tom & Winie, Herbie, Mr Chips, Maggie, and Elwood.

Sure:  Green & older......

Just kidding.

They make fine pets.  The mini macaws are pretty mellow.  The Hahns &
yellow collared are probably the gentlest.  I'd lean more towards the
yellow collared if you can afford the difference!

I've got a severe that I've raised from spoon feeding to his current
4yrs.  They just keep gettin g better.
