Iguana/Human diseases

I've never posted to this group but I thought you folks may be able to help
me out.

I am a librarian doing reasearch for a client who is seriously ill with
an unidentifiable form of pneumonia.  The doctors are stumped and the family
is searching for anything to help narrow down the cause of the disease.
The person has a pet iguana who had an infection in it's mouth (the
family doesn't know what kind) just prior to the person becomming ill.
What the family wants to know is this:  Are there any diseases that iguanas
carry that can be transmitted to humans?  I have located one case of a rare
form of Salmonella infection in two infants that was traced to the pet
iguana.  Do you as iguana enthusists know of any such diseases?

Any information would be of a great help.
please respond to the group or to the E-Mail address:

Thanks a lot!

I would recommend obtaining a copy of Steve Grenard's book
"Medical Herpetology." It was just published last year and at the very least
will serve as a pointer to other sources.

The book is available for $19.95 from
