MITES....I Hate Mites!

a few days ago i made a post here about having mites again. this time
with my 3 ball pythons. however i never saw it post and must asume it
is because i used the word damn in the sub line. at any rate i had
thought maybe it was a false alarm, because my guys were showing no
signs of being pestered and i saw no more mites, (only one to begin
with in the first place.) but now just a few minutes ago i noticed at
least 10 in their water bowl, and my biggest ball maynard laying on
top of them. i have never seen him soak before so it is an odd thing
indeed.

anyway i have set up hospital, and they are all well on the path to no
longer being pestered by mites. i've got red and black ones. anyone
know of any difference between red and black mites?

I never saw your first post too.
The mites you have are both the same type. The red ones simply have a full
belly (sucked ***). Have you allready used some anti-mites-product to
solve the infestation?

Now I don't know too much about mites really and I've been very lucky to
have never had any yet (touch wood!!) but I have read that mites can
transfer to humans and in some people make them a bit itchy - kinda like
having fleas off a cat or dog. I guess a bath/shower is all that is needed
to rid you of them but I think the story goes that a python was allowed
loose in a house and used to sit on a fabric chair - the python was infected
with mites and everytime someone sat in the chair they also picked up the
mites!!! (Once the chair was cleaned the problem was resolved)

I've read about this mite-infested chair. I believe it was in the book "277
secret your snake wants you to know".

Hi Anna,
Hmmm - that might be the one - does have a ring of being an 'urban legend'
about it but hey - still a good story :o)
It a funny book really isn't it..?

Some member of some British band was giving an interview (can't remember who
he was or which band he was a member of). He said when he was a student, the
cat had fleas, so they used to flea-spray a chair each and sit in it all
night.

"And you never thought of actually spraying the source of the problem? I.E.
the cat? The picture of the cat and the dog on the front of the flea spray
can is there for a reason you know"
