.mites that eat other mites

People who keep tarantulas have trouble with mites getting on their
animals (sounds familiar). Anyway, they put OTHER mites, called Hypoapsis
Mites, in with the infested tarantulas. These Hypoapsis feed on the
Tarantula parasites and then die off because of lack of feed! Do any herpers
use this type of biological control? ....Norman

Sure...it works quite well, but has three drawbacks....it takes some time to
eliminate the snake mites, you need to keep the snakes on a soil-type
substrate during treatment, and it can be a bit more expensive than
traditional methods.  I know of about eight herpers here in Canada that have
used it with great success.
