Is there no down side to owning BDs? I have yet to hear any negatives.
Surely, there must be something difficult about raising them? Eh?

Hi, my name is Bob. I am a friend of Dave's. <Hi, Bob!>

PS Still researching BDs prior to purchasing.

In general, you want to get babies that are a few months old rather than
just hatched.  The mortality rate is higher among newly hatched BDs than
older babies.
