I have a mature, male Gulf Coast Box Turtle..With a very picky
appeptite. what are the best ways to feed him so that he just doesn't
pick out what he likes the most..He doesn't really care for collard
greens and some other fruits that are high in beta carotene. Should I
grate the food, or put it into a food processor?? And just leave it,
hoping that he will eat it because he get so hungry and nothing else is
available to eat...Lastly, I received a care sheet made by some vets in
California, they recommended as a source of protein the dog food
Gainesburgers..you know the soft food looks like chop meat...I hear such
conflicting reports about using cat or dog food..that I am afraid to try

I wouldn't even feed a dog on GainesBurgers.  That is junk food.  I have
used soaked dry dog food.  Use a good brand, soak till soft, mix with
veggies,  top with a worm or two for added e***ment.  Also give the
turtle a warm soak (shallow water of course)  before feeding.  It will
encourage defecation and appetite.  Also I only fed every other day.  I
used to manage a reptile store many moons ago and that was the way we did
it.  Other people may tell you different.  Our Box Turtles ate like pigs.

That sounds reasonable.  How long should the turtle soak for before
feeding.  Also, do you recommend feeding the box turtle (in my case asian)
in or out of the water?

Thanks, Susie
