OT: Bad week, no trip for me

Post by ChaosCa » Sat, 22 Nov 2003 13:36:17

So yeah. I was supposed to be in California tomorrow.

Unfortunately, a long, drawn-out series of bad events has been happening
almost non-stop.

My car needed new brakes, so we were going to leave it here and get them
done when we came back from our trip.

First the car we were originally going to take down, which just got out of
the shop, gets 11 MPG when it got 18 before going into the shop. Then it
gets an exhaust leak, and THEN the window gets smashed.

So next option: the truck. Drove it around for a week, it starts making
whining noises from the back end. It needs a new rear differential. Lovely!
Everything else is fine, however.

Next option: Jesse's stealth. Nope, it needs an alignment and a
transmission.

So I put my stealth into the shop to get the brakes redone. $2000 and 2 days
later, it needed a new radiator, thermostat, calipers AND rotors.

Ok, drove it around all day today without a problem. Packed it up, got ready
to go... left. Got onto freeway. Everything seems fine, drives fine, sounds
fine. Then: VROOOOMMMM. Jesse stepped on the gas, and the RPMs went up HIGH.
no shifting. This is an automatic ***-and it is supposed to downshift
when you hit the gas to speed up. Nothing. Finally, it shifts. We keep
going, thinking its a fluke.

VROOOOOMMMM. It does it again. We decide to pull off at the next offramp to
see what is wrong. BARELY make it to the onramp before the *** shifts
itself into neutral and now it won't come back out.

Sit on offramp in Chehalis being honked at with our emergency lights on.
Call tow-truck. Watch police drive by and stare, but not offer to help push
the car off the road.

Push car off road. Sit there, with it in Park (yes, PARK still works) and
with the E-brake on. While sitting there, car is running fine-no ***. ABS
light comes on. Ohhhhkkkaayyyy.. I didn't even have my foot on the brakes!

Finally, tow-truck shows up, AAA tows my car to a DIFFERENT mechanic, and
they are going to inspect my car tomorrow morning to see what the problem
is.

I don't know what is going on this week that so much has gone wrong.

My week:

First, I go to buy live pinky mice. NO ONE HAS ANY. Nowhere!

Second, I had a UPS shipment going out Monday. UPS doesn't show up until
almost 6pm to pick it up when they said they would be here by 2. I waited
all day, not wanting to leave my box outside in the rain, and wasn't able to
get anything done.

Third: I had a fedex coming in on Tuesday. Something grounded the plane, so
it never made it until Weds. Called Fedex Tuesday morning, they said there
had been plane problems, but it should be there Tuesday by noon. I waited
all day Tuesday until I broke down and called FedEx.

Went to take a shower this morning, the water heater broke. Brand-new water
heater, and the pilot light goes out everytime the wind blows.

Then all this car crap. UGH!!!

So  now we are trying to find a way to drive to california and not get stuck
anywhere. :(

You're not the only one. There most be something astrologically F*ing things
up this week. I'm too pissed at the world to get into writing of my week,
but this has definitely been one of the crappiest weeks I remember having.
Yes, when it rains it pours

I have no idea. I'm actually hoping my transmission was messed up by the
people who last worked on my car-or else I get to put lots more $$ into what
*was* a perfectly running car (with the exception of the brakes and
radiator) before I dropped it off with them. :(

Geeze, that's rotten! I hope the last mechanic will cover all the repairs
you need now.  Good luck finding a way to get to CA!

What I want to know is *how* on *earth* did it cost you $2,000 to get your
brakes done?! The mechanic should have checked the Rotor when he did the
brakes also. For that much, you should have got the Rotor, brakes and 4 new
calipers. Also you should know, a lot of times the brake line will collapse
on the inside and force the caliper to freeze up, sometimes its just the
line that needs replaced.

That was the price for all 4 rotors, calipers, brake pads, AND the radiator
and thermostat.

I had them keep the parts so I could inspect them, and they were really
rusted. Doesn't help that some bad driver rear-ended me on the freeway some
months ago. :( I think that just accelerated the problem.
