Use bleach water and a sc***.  Let air out for a good while, several days.

1% bleach, 99% water is about right, isn'it it?

Depending on the type of wood, I've used up to 5% bleach.  Then I lay
the wood outside to bake in the summer sun for the rest of the day.
Open grain wood=more bleach
Unknown Origin=more bleach
Drift Wood=more bleach

Good Luck!

What about wood furnishings harbouring mites? What percentage for that?
And is it safe to use bleach on items from a snake tank or would I be better
off using a product specially formulated to get mites off wood hides?

Bleach at 5%, then put in your kitchen oven for up to 1 hour at the
lowest setting it is capable.
Don't do this and leave.  Keep a very close eye on your oven and the
wood inside it.  If you start to smell wood burning, take it out
immediately if not sooner!!!  Bake until dry.  Between the bleach and
the heat, you should kill all germs, bacteria and mites.

Good Luck!

I bleach at 5% for one day, then soak in clean water for 2 more days
replacing the water several times...

then I bake in my oven at 400degreesF for an hour.

When my igs had mites two years ago, I soaked them in the bath and baked
their piece of wood in the oven. The log went in as a half log with room for
the two-footer to go under with ease. It came out flat as a board and the
little ig (half the size as the big ig (the two-footer, the larger of a pair
is usually referred to as the big ig even if it's not a particularly large
specimen in itself)) had to scratch in the woodchips to squeeze under.

Never saw another mite on the ig's again and they could clearly be seen as
red things under the large scale's in their toes before they were de-mited

Is there something I could do to prevent Jasper's (the python) log from
warping in the heat?
