pets released into the wild

All this talk about pets being released into the wild reminded me of an
incident some years ago that appeared in an article in the Ann Arbor News,
here in Michigan.

In one (can't remember which one) of the great lakes, someone caught a weird
looking fish.  You know what it was?

An OSCAR!

And it was MUCH bigger than they get in their native habitat!

There was a similar event in Portland, OR a few years back, where some hapless
fisherman hauled a *piranha* or two out of the Willamette River.

The ability of animals to survive where they should have no chance at all can
be absolutely amazing.

Don't release your pets.

I believe the *piranha* were actually Pacus.  They look similar but are mainly vegetarians.  Of course the teeth are the main
difference between the two.
