iguana hiding help

Hi Mary
Some iguanas do hide a lot, especially at first. Is he new? If so, he is
probably just stressed. Cover one side of the tank/cage with a sheet of
newspaper to help him get used his cage without being interrupted by
passers-by all the time. Make sure that in the meantime, he can stay
warm under his log - one danger of hiding is that the iguana gets too
cold because he doesn't go up to his basking spot.

However, if you've had him for a long time and he's just started hiding,
that may be more serious. Sometimes iguanas who were previously brave
start to hide if they become sick. If that's the case, you might want to
see a vet. Take a poop sample in a plastic baggie with you and the vet
will tell you if he has parasites (most iguanas do when you first get
them).

As for the blue-green color head, if that is a light blue-green, it is
normal for some iguanas. If you mean a dark blue, like a bruise, it
might *be* a bruise - perhaps he is rubbing his head on the log?

Have you read the care documents at http://www.sonic.net/melissk/ ?

Good luck,

Anne M
