Post by debbie taylo » Tue, 24 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I'm looking for dead snakes for my monitor as a "treat". Must have been
healthy at time of death, will also take road killed snakes that are in
good condition.

BAd bad bad idea.  Why give your monitor parasites?

yep. good monitor treats<from what I've tried with my savanna> are
mealworms and  the beetles they turn into<make a great crunching noise>
pinkie mice<dead or alive> crickets<good exercise food, especially if you
have rocks for them to hide behind in the cage. my savanna spends hours
trying to fish the little suckers out>, giant mealworms, waxworms, flying
bugs<watch your monitor bounce all over the cage>and just about any other
small invertabrate moving creature that isn't poison, stings, bites or
otherwise might harm your lizard.

Food is food to your monitor no matter what it is<most monitors are pretty
dull and it takes intelligence to have fun>. A treat should be something
you would not regularly feed your monitor, but the monitor likes<for taste
or to hunt> and won't hurt it.

dead herps may be something your monitor likes or would like, but they can
carry parasites and other diseases your monitor could get and thus just
are not safe to feed to em.
