Looks like some kind of shield tail snake (unless that's
a leaf I'm seeing, and not a tail end).  Since I don't
know which one it is, I will call it a Philipines
shield tailed snake, based on the specific name provided.
I have no idea if there is such an animal, but the name
has a nice ring to it.

Ha!  Almost had me.  For a second I thought
you were tossing another sea turtle at me.
But then I took a second look and recognized
that cute little pig nose.  Pig nose turtle.

Oy.  Another ***e.  Looks like an alligator
with a snake's head stuck onto it.  In keeping
with the descriptive names from above I shall
name it the snake headed lizard.

A really fat toad of some kind?
I give up on that one.

Kind of you to give me shield tail, even though
I did get the name slightly wrong.
Thanks for doing this Chad.  It's alot of fun.

Not AWOL, just sitting it out to give others a chance.

*snip*

Well, I figured you to come in and clean up sometime tomorrow.  After
all, I will find one you have no clue of one of these days.  ;)

And of course, with Sarah and Chris away the weekly stats look
extremely strange.

I'm not away. Just very, very busy and reading/posting less. The whole 2
jobs thing (I'm now working 8-10 hour shifts at job #2 at tarantulas.com and
actually picking up a bit of overtime at petco because we're remodeling),
the rescue reptiles thing keeping me hopping (current collection around 30
herps, not including the invertebrates, mammals, or fish), the kid living in
the house thing (read: surrogate parenting and babysitting)... plus I'm
planning some pretty major vacations and events in the next couple of months
(starting next week!) so getting all that together... plus I'm pursuing rock
and roll (singing with rock stars!) not to mention my ongoing tattooing
processes... I've also started piercing myself and stretching my piercings
more agressively (more time consumption) and of course I'm such an escapist
I have to be reading 3-4 novels at a time... I'm also writing a training
program for clientele of petco entitled "reptile husbandry 101"... I'm
creating a couple of pieces of art right now (one acrylic painting, one
digital image with my new motto "behind every successful woman lies a messy
house")... I'm well into construction mode on my 29 gallon viquarium with
river insert (which is taking a suprising quantity of time and probably
won't be ready for dendrobates for several more months), I'm treating one of
my cats for chronic yeast infections in her ears again (almost an hour a day
of ear servicing)... we're dogsitting 4 days a week which includes lots of
hiking... oh and I've been helping out here and there at a ferret shelter
here in town... she has 80 ferrets in her facility right now!!!!!! Plus of
course herp society stuff... I'm no longer the newsletter editor (phew!) but
still doing plenty of bugtesting for the updated www.pnhs.net functionality
(adoption animal and outreach listings and classifieds in the works), plus
doing the whole Adoption Chair thing answering tons of emails and phone
calls about incoming/outgoing rescues in the herp society...

Oh, and the only way I know to play this taxonomy game is 100% cheating...
google and/or textbooks. I don't have the memory capacity for memorization
of animals not in my collection!

Wow. I'm busy. What the heck am I doing sitting here in front of my
computer?!?!?! I have a tattoo appointment in 45 minutes!

fr0glet

P.S. in case I didn't mention already, I am very proud to report that the
petco I work at just won store of the year for our zone (over 200 stores)
for BEST ANIMAL MAINTENANCE... the most flattering part about this is it
coincides precisely with my one year anniversary with the company. :-)

Taxonomy Test #3

Post by Chad Trap » Tue, 07 Sep 2004 08:44:18

This week I will name two winners, as they both got two right and knew
that the amphib was a toad.

Winners: getstuffed and Zetekitoxin

Both came reasonably close on the snake.
Snake:
Pseudotyphlops philippinus
Large Shieldtail Snake

Z nailed the turtle.  I would have given major bonus if Warrajan was
guessed.
Turtle:
Carettochelys insculpta
Pig-nosed Turtle or
Pitted-Shelled Turtle or
Warrajan

G was rather close on this.
Lizard:
Dracaena guianensis
Northern Caiman Lizard
Guyana Caiman Lizard

And both knew this was a toad.  ;)
Amphibian:
Alsodes nodosus
Black Spiny-chest Frog

#4 will be posted later this evening, no clue yet as to what will be
posted.
