Mexican Rose Hair Tarantula?

Post by Zetekitoxi » Tue, 30 Sep 2003 13:29:11

Is there such an animal?

The friend who I thought has a Mexican red-knee
says that is in fact a Mexican Rose Hair.  I have
Googled said animal and come up with squat.  Could
he mean a Chilean Rose Hair?  Those seem to exist.

The thing is 20+ years old.  Could this be an animal
that used to be available in the pet trade and is
no longer?

Of course, this is not stopping him from looking for
a local PetCo that has B. Smithi for sale starting
Tues. (Thanks Jen and Fr0glet).

The usual caveats about my utter lack of bug knowledge
still apply when responding, thanks.

P.S. - and yes, it is a bug.  Anything that has more
than 4 legs is a bug to me!

I'm almost 100% positive that what he has is a Chilean rose (Grammostola
rosea).  There is a "Mexican pink" (Brachypelma klaasi), but it's relatively
uncommon.
I've got some G. roseas on my website, take a look and see if that's what he
has.

Seconded, sounds like a Chilean rose to me.  They've been around for a
while - I've got one that's 10 years old.  B. klaasi is a recent import,
AFAIK.

Here's a shot of one of my G. roseas:
