Here's the info on my new boa cages; I hope and assume that giving Big
Apple's number isn't violating some obscure "netiquette" rule; AOL flashes
a chastising message on the screen everytime users sign on to the
internet, and I never read them cause AOL's mode of interrupting what I'm
doing with their message annoys me....sorry, just a pre-dawn half-awake
gripe....anyway,
Big Apple sells cages in sizes ranging from 24 by 14 by 14 inches (59.95)
to 96 by 48 by 48 (549.95!). I got two "*** Burmese Python cages", 72
by 36 by 24, which cost 369.95 each (thus making each one more expensive
than my own rent each month....). Big Apple says they pay shipping
charges, but Roadway Express charged me 33 bucks to deliver the cages to
my house; the truck driver, a nice guy, told me that they wouldn't have
charged me if they didn't know it was a private residence, so keep that in
mind if you deal with Roadway.
The cages are white melamine, with doors on the front. Each has 2 light
fixtures. They stack on top of each other and actually look very cool set
up in my room, which is not that big. Last night I set them up and put
the boas in there with some stuff to climb on. It was pretty enchanting.
As I went to sleep I felt like I owned real estate on a hill- the closest
I'm probably ever gonna come to owning real estate on a hill, since I'm a
would-be English professor. The light in the cage went through the air
holes and reflected off the wall in tiny dots, and I saw the boas nosing
the sides of the cage, exploring their new surroundings and climbing
around.
Anyhow, Big Apple Herp has a catalogue fulla incubators, cages, heating,
lighting, ig and turtle food, books, etc. They also sell snakes. They
don't seem to sell feeder rodents, though. They eagerly send catalogs- I
got 2, for some reason. Their number to place an order is (800) 666-6672
and for info it's (212) 799-9065. They are open 9 to 6, EST, Monday
thru Fri and 12 to 5 EST on Saturday. The guy I spoke to is named Steve
(I think) and owns the company. Nice guy, fun to chat with.
