Seriously, if I was you I'd be tearing the stove apart to get my
pet out if his life was in danger, and if gas is leaking, it
probably is.

: I have a problem. my iguana was let out the other day, he crawled into the
: space between the burners and the oven (gas) and hasn't come out yet. and
: he has upset three out of the four burners. meaning, they do not work, the
: smell of gas is prevelent and I'm obviously going to have to hire someone
: to fix this all. but, i can't get him out of the stove. I've tried
: chopsticks, food in a bowl, turning on the oven on low etc.... I love to
: cook so this is quite a dilema and I'm getting more and more upset as time
: goes on. what does anyone suggest?
The tops of any stove I have ever seen gas or electric are hinged and will
lift up exposeing the burner works....pry up the front edge! sounds like the
little rascal has put out a couple of your pilots just relite them when you
get the top up.....AFTER YOU HAVE AIRED OUT THE KITCHEN OF ANY EXCESS GAS!!!
you know open the windows for 15-20 min.
good luck

i had a somewhat similar experience during the winter of '93-'94.
i had a 2ft green ig at the time, and he was roaming around in my ba***t
apartment while i was bullshitting with some friends. it was pretty cold, and for
heat in the apartment i had a free standing gas furnace with a grate on the
front, but little else (im sure the manufacturing of these things is now illegal)
anyway, the iguana jumped up and hung on the grate, probably enjoying the warmth,
but scant inches from the fires of hell. i slowly reached for him, but right
before i grabbed him, he jumped in and disappeared within the workings of the
furnace... i was shocked... i thought for sure he was burnt to a crisp... after a
short silence, one of my friends bagan to laugh uncontrollably... i shot him a
*** look, and he concealed his glee as best he could... then coming out of
shock, i sprang to action, shutting off the gas valve. then i grabbed my spray
bottle and began hosing down the heater. i was blinded by the steam for a
moment, but just when it cleared, my lizard jumped onto the grate from inside the
heater... without so much as a burn... i was much relieved. this iguana has been
since dubbed "Dances with Fire"
