What am I missing?

Post by Akash » Wed, 12 May 1999 04:00:00

Ok guys, I've gathered up as much info as I can find for my Cat Food
Information page. If you wouldn't mind... could you visit it real quick and
tell me if the food you're feeding is on there? If not I'll put the info up
there! This is turning into such a science project for me! :)

Thanks!

Liz,

I think you may have missed a few.  I didn't see Sensible Choice
or Petguard on the list, for example.

The best web site I know of for a list of high-quality pet
foods is www.altvetmed.com - they have links to most of the
manufacturers of the foods they recommend, so you can check
web sites (or call 800 numbers, also listed) for ingredients
lists.

Hmmmm.  Was it your intent to do every flavor variation? :-)
Iams has Ocean Fish and Catfish flavors.  Kiwi the Abby and Hawaii
particularly enjoy those.
There is also a Turkey and Rice flavor that Hawaii loves but Kiwi abhors.

Mr. Tigger's preferences lean toward the complete line by Nutro (not the Max
Cat).
These include Tomato Bisque, Turkey and Lamb Cutlets, Veal Pate, Chicken
Supreme,
Hunter's Stew with Duck, Hunter's Stew with Venison and a variety of others.

Cheers-

Hi Liz,

Here are two of the three flavours of canned "Nutro" Max Cat
Lite.

I think it would be helpful to inform people that to compare the
Guaranteed Analysis percentages of the canned food with the dry,
they need to multiply the canned percentages by 4 since most
canned foods contain approximately 75% moisture.

Hope this helps.

Woo-hoo! Thanks! That's a bunch of stuff! :)

Ok, so you multiply by 4 and that will give you a percentage comparable to
dry food...  But do you also have to feed your kitty 4 times as many
servings to get the same nutrients as one serving of dry?

I have actually always wondered about that. It seems like dry has a much
bigger dose of nutrients and such per serving than wet. So if you only feed
wet... do you feed more of it than you would dry food??? Or am I just making
this too complicated? :)

As you can tell, I just feed wet food as a treat!

Liz,  it would be beneficial to post a formula for comparing foods on a DRY
MATTER BASIS.  I have the formula out at my kennel and I will try to
remember to post it.  Basically, you have to subtract the water content out
of the total first, and then compute what percentage each ingredient is of
the remains.  This is the only way to compare apples and oranges.
