sad sad news from our once happy home

Post by donnamay » Mon, 24 May 1999 04:00:00

we have two lovely cats Burt and Ernie. Ernie has been missing since
Tuesday. Today we heard that our neighbors have eaten our lovely kitten.
No this is not a joke, and no I am not trolling.
We have caught them twice before burning the fur off of cats with a blow
torch. Both times we called the Police and Animal Control, even though it is
against the law in Seattle to eat a cat, they did nothing.
How can I get justice for this action. Please dont advise me on illegal
things as I will not do anything illegal.
We are still holding out hope that this report was wrong, but it isn't
looking promising.

Ernie was born outside, when we got him he had never been inside. We worked
very hard at getting him to come in (they were doing something that scared
him when he tried to come inside, dont know what). When you have an outdoor
cat, the best you can ever hope for is and indoor-outdoor cat. My cats love
their freedom and I am not going to take that from them, they stay in my
yard, unfortunately my neighbor knows where my yard is.
And yes, I am for real and so are my sick, sick neighbors.

not true at all. damien was a stray when i got him---i took him in, gave him a
home and he became an indoor cat. he has absolutely no desire to go outside at
all. if you open the door he wont try to go out. hes totally spoiled and if
given the choice between my couch and a tree outside the couch wins everytime.
if you know youre neighbors are like this than it was completely irresponsible
for you to let your cat outside and risk his life.

get lost.
if you know anything about cats, then you know that if a cat is and outdoor
cat and you force them to stay indoors, it is cruel. you cant give a cat
something then take it from them. It is cruel.

I would report them..

This is crazy, there has to be something legal that can be done to them.
What does animal control have to say about it?

Leave it to you to hit me when I am grieving for my cat, how compassionate
of you. Do you take candy from babies. Rip the wings off of lady bugs. Poke
holes in the tire of the 4 year old boy down the block. Advise the elderly
to visit Dr. Kavorkian  for a cold. You cold heartless, well not even gonna
go there.

I did report them to the police and animal control. We actually caught them
at it twice and then called both offices. They wouldn't do a thing about it,
animal control said to call the police, the police said they were to busy
with real crimes.

let me get this straight
1) you have psychotic neighbors
2) you knew they previously abused animals
3) you let your cat outside where your neighbors had easy access to him
4) and youre mad at me because i told you that you werent responsible?
5) you stated that you cant make an outdoor cat indoor
6) i stated that i have a cat who was a stray who is now strictly an indoor
cat.
7) so youre mad at me for pointing out that your excuse for letting your cat
out around your psychotic neighbors doesnt fly?

get a grip. stop looking for a scapegoat for your irresponsible actions, stop
looking for excuses as to why your cat had to be outside and learn from it and
deal with it.

The very best advice I am able to give is that perhaps you should ask your
vet about your legal choices.  He/she may be familiar with laws dealing
with this kind of thing.  I hope Ernie hasn't fall prey to these creeps.

sad sad news from our once happy home

For the record, I was raised in a very loving home until the age of 9 when
my mother passed away. I was sent to live with an aunt that would not let me
do anything, i.e. go outside, talk on the phone, have friends over. I spent
the next few years locked up in her home. So I can understand how my cats
would feel if I forced them to become indoor cats. My cats are outside for a
limited time every day, one hour in the morning one hour in the afternoon
and one hour in the evening. They have been trained to stay in our yard, of
course on occasion they do chase a stray out of the yard and get a little
farther then I am happy with, but I usually hear this and call them right
back then give them a scolding. One of my neighbors (not the cat eaters),
saw one of my other neighbors (the cat eaters) walk through my yard and stop
to pet my cat. After that Ernie was gone.
You said that you leave your doors open and your cats sits at the door but
never leaves. I bet a person could walk up to your back porch when you were
preoccupied with something else and take your cat (although I would never
wish this on anyone) but it could happen. Most people dont have to worry
about people trying to steal their cats out of their yards and to tell you
the truth I didn't think they would steal him right out of my yard (if
indeed that is what happened, I hope not). But I now know better and when
Burt goes out, instead of checking on him every couple of minutes, I grab my
glass of water and go sit in the yard with him (this is something I use to
do often anyway).

i really am sorry to hear of the heartless nature of your neighbours.

i try not to be judgmental, and now that i know the facts i can sympathise.
good luck, and let's hope ernie is safe and sound.

too many disagreements arise cos of the indoors outdoors argument.

I won't comment on the indoor/outdoor issue (like I won't comment about the
"D" issue) ~ BUT I can say that I would be on the phone, email & letter
writting to every official, both my town mayor and governor, to the police
chief and ALL the newspapers and news stattions to get this STOPPED

I sincerely hope Ernie is OK
