I knew there was a reason for keeping the little monsters around.

Purring cats and playful pups can provide more than companionship.
They can significantly reduce stress-related increases in
*** pressure, even among people with highly demanding jobs,
scientists said Sunday at an American Heart
Association meeting. Researchers at the State University of New York at
Buffalo, studying 48 stockbrokers already taking a medication called
Lycinprol for hypertension, found that those who
obtained a pet reduced by half the increase in *** pressure
that came with stress.

I'll bet everybody here knew that.  After all, the only relaxant that can
compete with a purring cat on your lap is a sleeping baby in your arms.

It depends on what they do.  Usually one of them will get down.  If they
start fighting, I dump them both.  I'll agree, that isn't relaxing.  ;-)

Yes, but what to do when you have a cat in your lap, and another cat wants
on?  I personally do not have this problem, but my husband does.

PETS CURB DANGEROUS RISES IN BLOOD PRESSURE

our kittens don't seem to mind sharing Steve's lap. i have several cute pictures
af all three of them curled up in MY armchair. Someday i'll get around to
putting them on a webpage for everyone to admire...

i think kittens reduce stress 'cause they're always so FUNNY! we put an elastic
on the handles of the cupboard under the kitchen sink, because the kittens were
always going in there and i didn't want them to eat the dish-washer soap, or
stuff out of the garbage. and now every chance she gets, 'Vette steals the
elastic and trots off with it and then we chase her around trying to get it
back. It's a hilarious game. I guess the purpose is still served, it's
distracted her from the cupboard!

Whoever researched this doesn't know my Tweety--a calico who NEVER gets off
my lap--especially when I am reading a bok or the paper.  She drives my mom
nuts be insisting on napping on a lap, if not mine (which she pre-furs),
it's hers she chooses.  But only when she is not wanted.  Mom contends that
a purring cat--Tweety--on her lap raises her BP, not lowers it.

I personally find cat purring extremely relaxing. It's like the sound of
rain on the roof, I find this relaxing too.

PETS CURB DANGEROUS RISES IN BLOOD PRESSURE

Peaches used to belong to my sister until her allergies started acting up
really bad after the baby was born.  But for those first few months, she would
sneak into my nephew's crib each night if he started fussing.  He'd cuddle up
next to her and go right back to sleep...  After Peaches came to live with us,
my sister had to buy one of those Momma Bears - you know, the ones you turn on
to sound like the womb - or he just wouldn't sleep through the night.  But part
of the reason Peaches came to live with us anyway was because she has a
tendency to sleep on your head - they were afraid the baby might get hurt...
