Excessive grooming and licking rust

Any idea if this is normal or something we should worry about?

Our cat developed red itchy spots, mainly on his ears which our vet
diagnosed as a food allergy. For the last 6 months or so he's been
eating hypo-allergenic food, but he's been acting a bit strange. He
***s himself and us all the time, way more than any other cat I've
ever known. He also***s nails, walls, paint, rocks, ceramic, all
kinds of weird stuff. Is this an indication of some sort of
deficiency? He eats enough, but not very much, and he otherwise seems
healthy. He's really affectionate and seems to have regular energy
levels.

Thanks    :)

I'm not really sure but I'm thinking possibly he has an iron deficiancy or some
other deficiancy.  Has he had a full *** panel work up done?
