Hi all!  OK here's the story...
Tom and I were driving home from work tonight...and there was this cat.
Sooooo  we stopped to see if it had a collar....It kept running ahead of me
but really acted like it wanted it stop...finally it turned around and came
over to me.   Skin and Bones!  Poor thing was all hair and no meat...covered
with mats.  ITs got a 'maine-coon' look and big.  It has sores on its feet and
a cut above one eye, but nothing life threatening.

Well we couldn't just leave it there !!!!!  :o
God I love my husband.   :)

I don't know if its male or female.  But currently its in our OTHER spare
bedroom...dining on tuna.  Monday is our day off and it will go to the vet to
make sure its disease free...get ouchies treated....fixed if necessary...shots
and shaved.  Then we'll have to find it a home.

Hahahahahahaha.  I just went in the room to check on it.  It acts like I'm
its long lost buddy.  PRRRRRRRRRRRRR, rubbing all over me.  Someone must have
loved this kitty but its been out there a VERY long time.  :(      I'll place
an ad just in case, but I doubt it will prove helpful.
All 4 cats are laying outside the door trying to get a peek.  No one seems
pissed.  They must have accepted the fact that mommy is nuts....

Good luck in finding the cat's owner. :-)  However, it wouldn't surprise me in
the least if the maine coon ends up as the newest member of your family.

A similar thing happened to me 20 years ago. A stray cat was found on the side
of the road in a cardboard box. I figured it must have been part of a litter of
kittens but was the 'runt' of the bunch and wasn't wanted.

When it was brought to my boyfriend he said that he thought I might like it.
Well...at first I said no, but when that cat looked at me with those adoring
golden eyes, that was it. She was named Snowball, treated for the cold in her
eye and she blossomed into a beautiful Turkish Angora.

I had to put her to sleep two weeks ago due to old age. I'm glad now that I
didn't tell my boyfriend no. :-)

Another stray story: Flakey (aka Snowflake) just appeared at my front door one
day. that was 11 years ago. And now I have another little kittie Sweetie Pie
who was also a stray. I hope to have her as long as I've had both flakey and
Snowball. Flakey is STILL adjusting to the new arrival. At least I didn't wait
as long to take in another cat as I did with Snowball. :-) Snowball was 9 when
I brought Flakey into the house and set in her ways. Until about two years ago
she just TOLERATED his presence in the house.

He seems to be a little more accepting as he will at least stay in the same
room with her. Snowball wouldn't even do that. LOL

Your house sounds like mine when I take in cats. Kitties in every room!!!
:-)
Except for the poor kitty's plight, it can be nice can't it???
Hugs to you and your husband for caring,
Heidi

If this kitty is that poor, I would feed it up a bit before putting it
through a surgical process.

Udate!
I named him Jinxy.  He's a nuetered male.  He's completely missing part of
his front paw but its healed over.  He's extremely affectionate, and well
trained to the litter box.  He lays upside down in my lap and hangs his head
into my hand...so cute!
I'd say whatever caused the injuries probably happened the day he was lost.
He's been outside an awful long time from the looks of him.
We'll take him to the vet tomorrow. Right now he's content to lay on the
waterbed under the ceiling fan.
We're keeping him seperated from the others until he gets a clean bill of
health, but they are chomping at the bit to get to meet him.
I just took some pictures and will get them up tomorrow if anyone wants to
see.

I'm hoping nothing will require surgery.  It all seems healed over.  He only
has 3 toes on his left front paw and his claws don't extend on that paw when he
makes bread.
He seems lively enough, all purrs and head butts.  And he thinks Scarletts
bedroom with the waterbed and ceiling fan is just GREAT....she however is not
particularly amused.

Hi Ginny -

Congratulations !!  Looks like you are discovering - rescue work is ***ively
rewarding !!

About surgery - "fixing" your new kitty - if he is indeed a "he", the surgery
is probably not a problem - but if he's a she, then as Keuda said, you probably
want to wait until you've fed her up a bit. Spaying an *** female is pretty
major surgery for her. Get her nutritional status enough better so her immune
system is working well again, before stressing her with a surgery.

And again - applause to you for doing this!!
(Doesn't it feel SO GOOD!!! - my secret is out - I'm not altruistic, it just
makes me happy to make a cat happy!)

Mary
