Mothers Day Reminded me...

Post by Jill McQuow » Wed, 15 May 2002 09:34:00

I talked to my mom on Mother's day and we were laughing about some stuff
(she's my best friend ever!).  When my parents came to town for their 50th
wedding anniversary in July, 2001, one afternoon I drove them over to my
oldest brothers house.  He and his wife have 3 cats and they are all over
the place.

Persia hides when strangers are around so my parents have never actually
seen her except in photos.  My middle brother used to tease me that I didn't
really have a cat until one day he saw eyes peering out at him from the
other room!

We were all sitting around the den, talking, when this small black cat
(Neferkitti) jumped up on my mom's lap and curled up like she owned it.  She
looked at me and said, "Uh, what do I do now?" (laughing)  I said "Pet her!"
She tentatively petted the cat.  She said, "Hmmm, this is okay; her fur is a
bit rough."  (Persia's fur is very silky and soft; all of my brother's cats
have coarse fur.)  I asked, is she purring?  She asked, "How can I tell?"
"Can't you feel it?"  "Oh, she's rumbling!"  (laughing)  Yeah, she likes
you.

Then Paul rang out "look here"!  Another of their cats had gotten up and was
kneading his stomach.  Through my mom completely for a loop.  What on earth
is that cat doing?!  We had to explain "kneading" to her.

I've learned an awful lot about cats in the just-over-a-year when Persia
acquired me!

Now, it doesn't make sense to me that my mom claims to know nothing about
cats.  My middle brother pestered them to buy him a kitten for his birthday
when he was 11 and they did.  But then, we were transferred to Bangkok and
so they had to give her to my aunt.  I guess we didn't have the kitten long
enough for my folks to get used to them.

Jill, my mom is my best friend too and my parents celebrated their
50th wedding aniversary in June of 2000....congrats to your parents on
their milestone last year.
My mom doesn't share my total devotion to cats but this year she did
something really nice for me on Mother's day. She bought me the nicest
Mother's day card and signed all of their names on it. She also
included a very generous check. We had a good laugh when I told her
that I "had no idea" how wealthy my "little ones"
were..............LOL
