Yes there is.

It was created about 1/2 way through the first season of Star Trek: The
Next Generation, during a high-heat flame-fest over Will Wheaton's character.

There is a way (don't ask) to override the USENET's control of issuing
newsgroups. This is akin to overriding the MODERATOR of a Moderated
newsgroup, and posting directly.

There is also a group called alt.fans.ketchup. Yes, it is about putting
ketchup (the condiment) on foods, and it is quite active.

While rogue usenet administrators have been known to create
newsgroups in the main hierarchies (rec, soc, comp, sci, etc.) without
the normal votes, such groups often dont get propagated very far
as other usenet administrators dont feel the need to propagate them.
However, alt groups are another thing.  There is no requirement for
voting etc. to create an alt group; all that is necessary is to have
a usenet administrator willing to issue the newgroup for that group,
and for a sufficient number of sites to honor that request, which
usually happens.

I don't doubt it. Some people have very strong feelinga about the Wesley
character. (especially in the first season!)

Obcat: I wish we could see more of Spot. Data's interaction with him
never fails to make me laugh.
