He was one of a litter of 4, that Aunti Ev saved from death row at the shelter.
They were five weeks old. He was the biggest of the four, all black, with a
white tail tip, and Aunti called him "Jasper" after her cat the had gone to the
Bridge years before, because of kidney failure. Jasper II and his siblings
were sent to our house for foster care, and it was a good thing that Aunti took
them when she did, because they all had head colds, and if anyone else had
spotted that, they would have been put to sleep immediately.
But Boss got the colds cleared up, and those kittens started to grow. They
stayed with us until Aunti got a bigger apartment. Naturally, we came to love
them like family.
Sara and Sugar were the little girls, a silver tabby and a calico,
respectively. Sugar went to the Bridge when she was 13 months old, with
pneumonia that wouldn't respond to antibiotics, And Sara was 2 1/2 when we lost
Jasper and Spicy were the little boys. Spicy is a tuxedo cat, looking very
much like Vincent's friend, Shelby .
Jasper suddenly started to lose weight a couple of months ago. He was tested
for everything under the sun, and came back negative. Irritible Bowel Disease
was diaagnosed. He was very thin, but under treatment. Last Thursday he got a
cold, and wouldn't eat. TED gave him antibiotics and eye ointment, but he just
got worse. Aunti Melly sent Boss and Aunti Ev to a specialist, and x-rays
showed masses in the chest and intestines.
Our Jasper , our little Braveheart had cancer.
Our hearts are broken over this. We loved him so very very much.
