Well, this is probably going to be the last update since it is such good
news!  (Well, may be not the last - baby still has to grow up.)

I just received a call from my vet, and he said that Momma is producing
enough milk for her son and should continue to do so.  We will be taking
her and baby home tonight, where they will receive the FINEST in
nutrition and care,  along with her anti-biotics.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! to everyone who sent mail with
suggestions, comments and inspiration.  You folks are pretty wonderful.

One more thing:  I really am stunned by the bill for all this.
It is itemized as follows:

1 feline leukemia test  (we did this first to be sure)
1 office call
1 pregnant cat spay procedure
1 anesthesia (sp?)
1 after-anesthesia recovery procedure (unclear on that one)
1 night in the kitty-hospital
1 round of in-hospital anti-biotics
1 set of take-home antibiotics.
(plus whatever food and stuffs she and son received while in hospital)

Are you ready for the total for this?  $ 130.18

CAN YOU BELEIVE IT???  I was expecting at LEAST $400 or so.  Please,
comments and experiences similar to this are encouraged!  Did I get lucky
enough to find a really good vet who is actually resonable?
What say you?

*Stunned, but extremely happy*

I'd keep this vet if I were you.  You sure seem to be into serendipity.

Another *** round of applause, for your vet!

I recently inventoried the vets in my town for prices for shots and
spay/neuters.   Spaying a female, NOT preggers, NOT in heat, is $100 -
$130 alone (that's Cdn $$$, so it might be a bit less in the US, but
anyway).  FeLV tests - $25 - $30, antibiotics from a few to a few 10's of
bucks.

Good deal - and again, glad to hear she's well!

My wonderful vets, who have looked after my animals all their lives have
always been fabulous but recently have gone over and above the call of
duty.  Started out a month ago when we had to have my husband's 14 year
old dog euthanised on a Sun. morning.  Paid $90 the next day to the
receptionist.  Went back a few days later to get Spike a new supply of
Tapazole.  Was told we had a credit as the vet hadn't wanted us to be
charged for the emergency fee.  When I took Spike in last week for his
kidney problems, I overheard the vet tell them not to charge us for the
office visit, just the medical supplies we took home.  Course they were
covered by the credit.  Made a formal appointment with them yesterday
sans Spike to ask a bunch of questions, different vet this time, spent
about 20 minutes answering them all and got more supplies.  Once again
no office visit charge and the supplies were still covered by the
credit.  I'm starting to feel guilty.  When you can find caring vets
like that you hang onto them for dear life. -Melinda

Boy I'll say!  My TED, who is inexpensive for my area, charges around $130
for just a spay/one night stay!

Wow, me too. One thing, I missed or forgot(early alzheimers?) the initial post.
Was this a rescue cat?  If so, most caring vets discount on rescues--at
least mine do.
Congratulations on your recovering family!!

Yes this was a rescued, nearly starved, pregnant, delivering, stuck with
stillborn kittens cat.  We all advised emergency medical care, and Ms. Spiker
responded immediately.

No Kidding! Gabriella's visit was $75.00, for spay=50.00, ears flushed &
medicated for mites(at my request) $15.00 (normally $30.00, but the cat
was already sleepin') and $10.00 for rabies. no 'post op' other than
normal observation, I took her home the same day. I am just glad that
one of our local vet's assistants has taught me how to inject cats and
dogs (strictly for the purpose of administering standard vaccinations
that can be purchased at our feedstore) this has saved me a lot of money
and enabled me to keep everyone vaccinated regularly as the shots are
only 4.00 each for a cat 4-way, and about 4.50 for a puppy 6-way. (I
used to have to do this for my horses too, had to give up the horses
after one fell on me)
