WHY 5 AM??????

Post by Spuggle » Tue, 22 Jun 1999 04:00:00

Is there some reason that cats MUST eat at 5am???  My Spike wakes me up no
later than 5:30am (but prefers 5am) by tapping her foot on the blinds, or
patting a bag or paper until I get up and feed her.  God forbid I have a day
I can sleep in (what is that - I don't even know anymore!)    She is content
to eat when I do.  I try to reason with Spike, and explain to her that it is
too early - that no one should be conscious before 6:45am  but she just
looks at me and goes back to patting the blinds!  If I still try to ignore
it she starts with the foul language!  (Spike uses words I wouldn't even
use!!!)  Does anyone have a solution for this?  My other cat Tequila does
not do this.  I thought of an automatic feeder, but Spike is basically blind
and she would never find it on her own.

HELP!

WHY 5 AM??????

Mickey still wakes us between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. for his breakfast. This,
knowing full well that he has a full bowl of dry food downstairs. We have
tried putting a bowl of crunchies in our room, we have tried "treats". He
trained my husband very well, he now gets up and feeds Mickey when Mickey
wants. Takes just a few minutes and hubby is back in bed. You know who rules
our house.

Secure you blinds somehow?  Switch you clocks backwards by two
hours and let Spike "think" it's 5 AMish?  Go to bed at 7 PM, so
you can get ten hours?  Buy mice and let them go at 4:45 AM?

(And I'm the one who taught Spike the foul language, Sarah....
sorry!)

ROTFLMAO.......Yours does that too re 5-5:30 AM?  My Frick and Frack like to
put their paws and heads in my blinds and let the light in as well as make a
lot of noise so I have no choice but to get up, raise the blinds up so they
can look out at the squirrels and give them their breakfast.  It doesn't
make any difference what day it is because they don't ever 'sleep in'.
After they have been fed, they will go up on the bed and take a nap making
sure that there is no room for me if I want to get back in bed and catch a
few more winks.  Go figure!  =^;^=

I'm a member of the 5am club too. Even though my cat has a bowl of crunchies
already, he just wants me to get up and give him even more crunchies. I think
he just wants me to play with him, but I don't - it's too early. He's still
doing this after 3 years.

Here's her latest (she did it for the first time this morning).  She started
to tap the blinds so I told her "No!" and put the blanket over my head
trying to stifle the noise.  So she climbs up on the bed and begins to tap
my head...

"Hello!  Are you awake?  I'm starving to death out here!  Get your lazy

on)

If I didn't love her as if she was my kid I would pack her bags and get her
a bus ticket!!!

Still sleepless,

Grin...  I have the BEST cats!  They don't try and get me up in the
morning, and only get antsy if I stay in bed too long after the alarm
goes off!

(However, one DOES tend to make a lot of noise when I am trying to get
to sleep!)

Hi Sarah,

Since I am also awake at 5am (yesterday was with a cat on my back
"patting" my cheek very quickly....pause......loud meow....repeat as
necessary),  I'm not going to be of much help.    During the week the
cat is an unsnoozeable alarm clock.  However, on Saturday this quickly
goes from cute to annoying.   <Grin>

What to do when this happens?   Get up and feed the cat.   :-)

Patrick ?

Are cats the only creature that can be cute AND annoying?

Tux isn't too bad about wanting food in the a.m., but she wants me to
get up and play and cuddle.  I can usually hold out until 6:15 or so,
then it's Tuxie Time!  Then we play tag, she has her breakfast, I have
my breakfast .. and *she* gets to go back to bed!

No, but they are probably the most skilled at it.

I think every mother cat's first lessons to her kittens are "Cute and
Annoying 101 to 505".  Extra credits are given for field work with the slave
with the opposable thumbs.

The second set of lessons are "The best times for waking your human - before
dawn or after midnight? ".

Then they get around to the mundane things like when to use and not use the
litter box, how to throw litter the furthest, and how to spill the water
bowl without getting wet.

my two wait till I come in at the early hours from work after which I feed
them and after that they go bonkers.......it is cute to me but not so cute
to the hubby....unfortunately the first Spike, we had from basically a
kitten and he is used to the late hours when even the hubby would be awake
and studing.....now it is too late to train him out of it and the other Opal
just follows suit........it is so funny me chasing around the living room
trying to quiet them down and ofcourse it is all a game to them......and
ofcourse Miss Opal will cry none stop if I go upstairs till I come back down
and bring her up...where upon she stays for a while and goes right back down
...to do the same thing later...........got to love em.........then the
sleep most of the day with me..................poor hubby......
