What's the etymology of the name? I've seen it lots and have no idea.

Richard,

Ever seen the Tasmanian Devil on cartoons?  Our Taz was kinda
outta-control when he was a kitten.  He tore through the house like the
Tasmanian Devil.  So Taz seemed to fit!

Our last addition is named Copper Tazmina of Yasmin.  Her mother was Kitten
of Yasmin and her dad Hit and Run.  She is pure black with the biggest copper
eyes, thus the Copper and Tazmina because she is a little devil, in a little
lady way.

Interesting that you name your cat after a German newspaper (taz, short
for tageszeitung)

I have a dog named Taz (aka Tazzer & Tazzer Bits). He's a small, black, terrier
mix with feathers on his fly-away ears. We had Dalmatians when he came to live
with us and we walked them daily. Taz would run full tilt in circles around the
Dals. A couple stopped us to compliment the Dalmatians and asked what breed was
the little black dog. "Oh, that's a Tasmanian Devil Dog", I say with a
perfectly straight face. That's what he was acting like (the Disney version of
the beastie). So since Taz is closer to the way we pronounce it than Tas, the
name stuck. The cats in the house are named Cyndy Maupurr (Mowp) and Goodie
Four-Paws (Goodie). Now back to your regularly scheduled cat program.
