Cat stuff more expensive than dog stuff?

Post by Howboutm » Wed, 08 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Has anyone else noticed that things for cats (collars, nail trimmers, toys,
etc) are more expensive than comparable items for dogs? I haven't compared food
prices, but I'm guessing the discrepancy's there too. I asked a cashier at
Petsmart why that is, and she had no idea -- she offered the same comparison I
did -- women's clothing is more expensive than men's clothing, and the Pet
Industry probably feels cats are more of a "women's" pets (which is ridiculous
in my opinion.) Grrrrrr. Anyone know who I should write to? Petsmart
management? The companies that package the pet supplies? I'm a tad annoyed.

It is the same way if you compare prices of horse products to cattle
products - vitamins, mineral blocks, leads, etc.  I think it is because they
feel that horse and cat lovers are a little more fanatical about their
***ions. :-)

i think people in marketing know that cats are more typically "spoiled" by
their owners than dogs are. not that people don't spoil dogs, but as a general
rule, i think cat owners are more enclined to spoil. i know i am :o)
